Meditation Classes Starting 30th September 2010 - 21st July 2011

(except half-terms and school holidays)

Thurs 4pm - 8pm (parents and children 7yrs-11yrs)

A new programme from The Healing Feeling focussing on meditation for parents and children together is being introduced this year. 

We all lead such busy lives…and in this world of constant change, it is so important to learn how to help your child to find stillness, peace and calm.  Your children can suffer from stress and tension too – Whether it is exam stress, anxiety from stressful situations, (e.g. friendship issues, bullying) or anger due to circumstances beyond their control – and this then affects our own stress levels. 

We usually forget that our body can only burn up a certain amount of energy everyday, and more often than not, we push ourselves beyond that threshold daily. In order to keep generating more energy, we need to let our bodies rest.  Imagine what would happen if you didn’t put fuel in your car – it will eventually stop.  Our bodies are the same way. Just by making a point to sit and do nothing periodically and get enough sleep each night, we allow our batteries to recharge and we generate more energy we can then devote to our work and recreational activities. We can sometimes underestimate the long term advantages that meditation can bring.   

Meditation helps to tap into our inner potential and has a whole range of benefits to unfold your child’s full potential to develop academic achievement through the qualities of concentration, creative thinking, confidence, inner calm, motivation and many more.  Longer term benefits from prolonged practice of meditation can assist in brain development, improved ability to access intuition, cultivate intellect and creativity. This increased achievement then leads to raised self-esteem, bringing your child happiness in all areas of their life.  

NB - Usha teaches skills to enable children to meditate - she does not teach them to meditate. There is a very subtle difference.  Children will be given choices about which skills they prefer to use or not use.  When parents sign up for the courses, they will be given more in depth information about this and the different levels.

FREE TASTER SESSIONS  

There are a number of Free sessions - download the booking form for details 

Level 1 (Beginners) - For parents and children together

In these classes, parents and children will be guided through the basic breathing patterns, postures and basic introduction of meditation practice.  All parents and children that are new to The Healing Feeling will start at this level.  They can progress to level 2 when they have completed one round of Level 1.

Level 2 (Intermediate) - For Children aged 6yrs-8yrs and 9yrs - 11yrs

Children will be guided to more advanced meditation techniques at level 2 which they will be encouraged to practice daily.  It is possible that a child may remain at level 2 until Usha decides when a child is ready to go to Level 3.

Level 3 (advanced) - For children aged 6yrs - 11yrs(12 yrs) 

By this stage, children will show evidence of easily meditating twice daily.    

At this level, children will be taught skills to master meditation practices, relaxation and visualisation techniques, innovation through discussion and discovering.  There will be fun activities, and group games to help children to find a safe path through daily problems and worries and learn ways of using visualisation in a positive way. 

Level 3 contains a rich variety of structured activities:

  •      to learn about different feelings and emotions,
  •      to deal with negative comments and coverage of many more topics for emotional literacy
  •      to learn how to relax and use creative imagination to solve problems and heal physically
  •      to identify and use strategies for developing a positive mental attitude

What happens in the workshop? Print E-mail

relaxationNo two sessions are the same, but a typical session would start with a circle time discussion, warm-up games and this would progess to creative activities and/or movement and children are encouraged to express themselves in a variety of artistic and creative ways.  We always end with a relaxation.
